| Term | Definition |
| Adherence | The degree to which a patient exactly follows a prescribed treatment regimen. |
| Affirming | A positive position. |
| AIDS | AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. |
| Allergic | Having an allergy to a particular substance. |
| Amputation | The removal of a limb, or any other portion of the body. |

| Biopsy | The removal of a small piece of living tissue for microscopic examination. |
| Bisexual | Is a word used to describe people who are attracted to people of both sexes. Bisexual applies to both men and women. |
| Bladder | A sack shaped organ that stores urine. |
| Blood borne | Infections that are carried by blood and blood products. |
| Braille | A system of writing and printing for people who are blind or visually impaired. |
| Bravado | A bold manner intended to impress. |
| Cardiac | Relating to or affecting to heart. |
| Catheter | A flexible tube for insertion into a narrow opening. |
| CD4 count | A CD4 is a molecule on the surface of some cells onto which HIV can bind. The CD4 cell count roughly reflects the state of the immune system. |
| Cervical | Relating to or situated near the cervix, i.e. the womb. |
| Cervical cancer | Cancer of the cervix of the uterus, i.e. the neck of the womb. |
| Cervical smear | A specimen of cellular material from the neck of the womb. |
