Term	Definition
Adherence	The degree to which a patient exactly follows a prescribed treatment regimen.

Affirming	A positive position.

AIDS	AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

Allergic	Having an allergy to a particular substance.

Amputation	The removal of a limb, or any other portion of the body.

Anaesthetic	An agent that reduces or abolishes sensation, affecting either the whole body or a particular area.

Anal	Relating to or situated near the anus.

Anal sex	Sex which relates, or is situated near to, the anus (bum-hole).

Antibodies	Protein substances produced by the immune system in response to an infection.

Anxiety	A state of being anxious.
