HIV is a virus that affects the immune system. People can become infected with HIV through unprotected sexual intercourse (vaginal, anal and oral with unprotected anal intercourse being the most risky), sharing drugs paraphernaha and in other countries, through infected blood products, and they can in turn pass it on to others. A person infected with HIV is infected for life, although with treatment they can look and feel well for a long time.
